After 15 years of baseball, I was immediately sucked into the triathlon world as a way to stay in shape and challenge myself mentally and physically. After training for and completing the Lake Placid Ironman in 2014, I cycled and ran when I could for about 1.5 years until graduate school consumed all of my time. I was completely sedentary, sitting behind a microscope for 4 years until January 2019 when my car broke down and the only transportation I had was my bike. Since then, I have progressively cycled more miles on a weekly and yearly basis on my road bikes and could not be happier. I have only been training/riding with a Stages Power Meter for the past year and I regret not starting earlier. It helped me train for and keep my effort in check during my climb up Haleakala (sea level to 10,000 ft.) and first ultracycling event (230 miles in 12 hrs) in the summer of 2022. Currently, I record most of my miles on the road, but I have started to add more and more gravel rides to my weeks and really enjoy the variety!
Fun Fact: My Strava profile name is 'midnight marauder' because I ride so early in the morning that Strava designates it night time and that is when I am able to collect a lot of my KOMs!!!
