I'm a 62 year old masters racer, currently affiliated with Flanders/MBRC. I live in Minneapolis but am from Seattle and hope to move to Boulder or maybe Big Sky in the near future.
I started racing in the early 1990's in Davis CA. I gave it up 25 years to work full-time but got the bug again when I went on a tour of the Dolomites & Italian Alps with Andy Hampsten's company.
Although winning is nice racing is all about creating lasting relationships, riding with friends, keeping personal commitments, maintaining a positive attitude, and having a healthy lifestyle. We move around a lot for work (7 times since 2009) and cycling is the primary way we make friends; we love being around fit, motivated and competitive people!
I race quite a bit with the Masters Nationals being my A race. I won the State Crit this year and was 2nd in the RR. I remember a lot of the tactics (from the 1990's) but the training and equipment have really changed over the last 25 years! I feel like I'm in the swing of things now and plan on 2023 being a banner year.
A note on social media: I use Strava a lot - it's a great way to stay in contact with friends. Facebook, Instagram, YouTube are mainly ways for me to connect with pro cyclists or the latest trends in training and equipment. I could easily adopt an active account in any of these channels if necessary.
