I am an immigrant (2003) from Japan in Canada. I started road biking only one year ago. I never thought it would be something I would be interested in.
Indeed, I grew up in a pancake flat area and had only ridden a Mama-chari or Japanese utility bicycle (single speed steel bike) for going to school when I was a teenager.
I am now a 50 year-old women, but I try hard to improve my skills on a daily basis. I raced in the Gran Fondo Whistler 2019 and I almost qualified for the UCI World Championships 2020 in my age category. I was only one place short (less than 4 minutes) from making the cutoff 20%, so it was very frustrating, but I will try more races over the year in order to qualify anyway!
I now blog about my biking experiences in Japanese and have the 3rd most read Japanese blog for overseas cycling.
