I grew up in Tennessee, ran track and cross country because I couldn't make the basketball team and my parents wouldn't let me play football. Wanted to run in college but wasn't super fast so I ended up at a little DIII school that just happened to have one of the best coaches in the country.
Got faster, won some big races including a few national championships my senior year. Kept trying to run seriously for a while after college, banged up my knee really badly once and got a bike.
Started riding and got into racing TTs. Did ok at that, well enough that I could make up for my lack of other skills and win some stage races (at the lower levels mind you) with big TT time gaps.
Found myself with four little boys and the racing got curtailed a bit. Get in what I can training-wise, still make sure to race the TTT every year at the Philly Phlyer and usually run the Marine Corps Marathon every year. Still get in some good races here and there like the Wilmington-Whiteface 50K MTB race, some fun Tuesday night Worlds type rides, some bigger rides like the annual Stone-Harbor ride with a big gang from Philly.
Ride with my buddies on Team I Hate Cancer (https://www.teamihatecancer.com/) a lot, rode to Maine this summer on the "Lobster Roll" to raise some money (https://www.teamihatecancer.com/the-lobster-roll-1).
